QUAD is an international centre for engagement in contemporary art and film, based in Derby, in the heart of the UK that opened to the public in a state of the art purpose-built building in 2008. QUAD recieves footfall of over 350,000 visitors per year.
The year-round programme focuses on major exhibitions, professional practice for artists, mass participation, commissions, independent film and the creative use of emergent digital technologies, as well as a range of educational and participation events for people of all ages.
QUAD is a charity focused on intercultural dialogue through supporting diverse audiences to engage, develop skills and contribute to contemporary culture. Major projects include the FORMAT International Photography Festival – incorporating the UK’s largest international portfolio review, exhibitions across the city from artists from across teh globe, and a range of talks, conferences and events.
Notable exhibitions include Jane and Louise Wilson, Lindsay Seers, Benedict Drew, teamLab, Kimchi and Chips, Imran Qureshi, Rebecca Allen – and also Doug Fishbone’s 9-hole crazy golf course at the 2015 Venice Biennale. QUAD has in recent years commissioned a rnage of AR, VR and online digital artworks. QUAD is also home to the Derby Film Festival. QUAD’s founding patron was the late Sir John Hurt.
